For my group’s final project (other members are Chisom, Kavon, and Gabby), we will be looking at changes in the Carleton’s homepage website between the years 1996 and 2020.
I’m interested in this research topic because I really enjoy data visualization and we plan to do two different types of data viz in this project. The first will be graphing our results from the text analysis to see if there are common words that appear most frequently across the different versions of the webpage. Although we are not quite sure what software we will use to do it yet, the second part of our project is visual analysis of the website design. I thought that the Roberts Reading Vogue study of Average Cover was extremely interesting and I am excited to learn how to do it so that I can use it for future projects!
In terms of our larger project goal, we hope to learn about the things that Carleton prioritizes depending on the year, since that could speak to the student audience they are trying to recruit and/or the newest trends and technology in website design.
